Hopper Scales

Hopper Scale

Maintaining the appropriate quality of industrial production requires precise control of the amount of material in tanks. The use of weighing technology, for which tank scales are used, has many advantages over other measurement technologies. It eliminates the need to consider the type of material and its properties – it does not matter whether it is a liquid, powder, or gas, nor does it matter whether the material causes corrosion, foams, has a low dielectric constant, or produces dust. It is the most accurate method of measuring the amount of material in a tank.

Hopper scales are manufactured to individual orders for existing or newly designed tanks, where information about the amount of material in a given tank is important, e.g., for the technological process. For this purpose, strain gauge sensors are installed in supports with load transfer elements, buffers, and tie rods, using weighing terminals and controllers.
Strain gauge sensors are the basic components of any industrial scale, and the accuracy of the measurement results depends on them. Tank scales most often use sensors that operate on shear or compression. A wide range of available sensors allows them to be selected for any application. Depending on the type of tank (storage, process with agitator, reactors, etc.), appropriate sensor mounting kits are also selected. Tank scales are equipped with various types of displays, ranging from the simplest ones, which only show the weight, to advanced color graphic panels that respond to touch. They allow for the control of actuators for tanks, such as valves, feeders, gate valves, etc. The weighing meters used also allow communication with higher-level production process control systems. The weighing modules used also allow tank scales to be connected to visualization systems, and thus to control the tank status using a computer, archive data on weight changes, etc.

Depending on the controller used, tank scales perform the following functions:

  • continuous measurement of tank weight,
  • receiving and dispensing material with simultaneous balancing,
  • automatic weighing and dosing of specified portions of material.
It is possible to equip the tank supports with extensometers that perform measurements without changing the structure.
Optionally, the weighing set can be equipped with an LED display with a character height of 50 mm or 100 mm.
We manufacture tank scales with a wide range of maximum loads, up to 200 t. We offer new tank scales as well as modernization of existing tanks.

Strain gauge sensors are built into the tank supports. It is important to select the right sensors and maintain precision during installation to avoid unnecessary measurement of additional forces (e.g., introduced by inflexible connections between the tank and other elements of the process). Thanks to our experience and knowledge gained during many projects, you can be sure that the selection of sensors and their parameters will be carried out in accordance with the art of engineering.

In our designs, we always take into account the risk of potential overload of the scale, aggressive or explosion-hazardous working environments, and the existence of lateral forces, such as wind. The scales we supply can measure weights from 0.1 to 400,000 kg and can be certified by us.
